What is unlikely to help?
You may find that you are doing things that are out of character for you: drinking too much, taking drugs, becoming involved in relationships that you instantly regret and getting into arguments or even fights. If you feel out of control, try to think about your behaviour and ask yourself if it is because of the pain that you are trying to deal with.
If you have no one to talk to and are finding things difficult – like falling out with your family and friends, falling behind with school work or having thoughts of suicide yourself – ask for help from a professional.
Speak to a school counsellor or your doctor, who might refer you to someone who can help. Don’t be embarrassed about this, many people have been helped in this way.
