Understanding and Responding to Grief
Aims and target audience
Understanding and Responding to Grief will equip participants to recognise common emotional responses to five typical (but by no means universal) stages of grief and to respond sensitively and effectively.
This course is aimed at anyone who has contact with a customer, service user, colleague – or anyone in their personal lives – who is experiencing grief.
Learning outcomes
This course will help participants to:
- Explore five typical stages of grief and common behaviours at each stage.
- Learn and practise sensitive and effective responses.
- Appreciate why people who are grieving show anger and how to respond effectively.
- Know where and how to signpost sources of additional support.

Interactive fully facilitated workshop with skills practice sessions.
